The ICAAD intern program expands its reach to Australia and New Zealand, where ICAAD Interns Erin Thomas and Suvradip Maitra have been working on two important initiatives.

interns erin thomasErin Thomas is a student at American University in Washington DC, focusing on Global and Comparative Governance in the Pacific, and has been interning with ICAAD during her study abroad in New Zealand. Erin is focused on legal and human rights research on 13 Pacific Islands Countries, providing essential information for a Sentencing Handbook we are developing for our TrackGBV initiative. She is also conducting unprecedented field-research in Niue, which lacks comprehensive gender-based violence data.interns suvradip maitra

Suvradip Maitra is a student at University of Queensland (UQ) in Brisbane, Australia, and has been focused on ICAAD’s TrackSDGs initiative, which seeks to help NGOs, Foundations, Corporations, and U.N. Agencies to strategically invest resources toward sustainable development efforts by translating quantitative human rights recommendations into actionable quantitative information. Suvradip has been engaging in efforts virtually alongside a team of lawyers working on the initiative. He previously was part of a group of students at UQ who conducted a comparative review of sentencing practices for GBV cases globally; research that is being used to inform ICAAD’s advocacy in the Pacific.

ICAAD would like to thank outgoing volunteer Brittany Estes-Garcia for her efforts as a social media and marketing volunteer for ICAAD. Brittany’s creativity and dedication will be missed, and the ICAAD team sincerely appreciates the work she put in!
