As humanity reaches further into the cosmos, the legal questions of space exploration are no longer the stuff of science fiction—they’re matters of urgent global policy. In “Space Treaties & Terrestrial Analogs,” ICAAD offers a compelling look at how legal principles first developed for outer space are not only shaping our approach to space governance but also mirroring—and learning from—treaties closer to home.

This policy brief, prepared with research support from Clifford Chance, analyzes six core legal concepts that underpin major space treaties and pairs them with parallel principles found in terrestrial regimes like the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the Antarctic Treaty System.
